Hawzah News Agency- Delivering his Friday sermons in Baghdad, the prominent Najaf Seminary scholar urged massive public participation in the upcoming elections, describing it as both a “national and religious duty.” He said the stance of the Supreme Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sistani, remains clear — that taking part in the vote is an essential responsibility for every Iraqi citizen.
Rejecting claims that Ayatollah Sistani had called for an election boycott, Ayatollah Mousavi stressed that such allegations are “pure lies,” noting that anyone can verify the facts directly with the office of the Supreme Authority in Najaf.
He clarified that while the religious authority does not endorse specific candidates or blocs, voters must base their choices on “merit and integrity.” He also lamented the moral decline of some officials who, after assuming power, abandoned humility for “palace life and personal guards.”
Paying tribute to the late Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hashem Safi al-Din, Ayatollah Mousavi described him as “a devout, ascetic, and courageous martyr,” emphasizing that his true stature has not been fully appreciated.
On regional developments, the Baghdad Friday Imam warned of “dangerous plans targeting Iraq and neighboring countries,” including Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, and even Qatar. He cautioned that foreign powers are attempting to weaken Iraq, dismantle the Popular Mobilization Forces, and undermine religious authorities — particularly Ayatollah Sistani.
Ayatollah Mousavi also warned against the spread of “infiltrative Salafism” promoted in some mosques, which seeks to promote submission to rulers aligned with Washington while erasing the region’s religious identity.
Concluding his sermon, he called on Iraqis to preserve hope, unity, and vigilance in confronting foreign plots.
